Consider an "ECO FRIENDLY" Summer Camp for your kids

May 27, 2014

Consider an ECO FRIENDLY Summer Camp for your kids

With summer rapidly approaching, it’s a good time to be planning summer activities for the kids in your life. Perhaps this is a good year to find a program that builds or enhances their knowledge and awareness of living more eco consciously.

Some Examples:

TUCSON VILLAGE FARM (TVF): located at 4210 N. Campbell Avenue; Tucson, AZ. Offers year round instructional, hands on programs for youths of all ages as well as week-long intensive summer camps. TVF is a working urban farm built by and for the youth in our community. TVG seed-to-table program is designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food and empower them to make healthy life choices. And it’s not just for kids…there are opportunities for adults to volunteer and become involved as well. For more information, please visit: TucsonVillageFarm.org

TUCSON BOTANICAL GARDENS: 2150 N Alvernon Way; Tucson, AZ. Through songs, stories, games, crafts, science projects and garden exploration; kids develop a basic understanding of the intricacies of plant life, as well as a renewed admiration for the wonder of our desert habitat. Visit: TucsonBotanical.org

ARIZONA-SONORA DESERT MUSEUM: 2021 N. Kinney Road; Tucson, AZ. Museum Explorers observe live animals, conduct science experiments, create crafts, learn to draw plants and animals, sample desert foods to increase their awareness and appreciation of life in the desert and how to care for our environment. Visit: DesertMuseum.org

DESERT BOTANICAL GARDEN: 1201 N. Galvin Parkway; Phoenix, AZ. Summer Camp at the Garden is always an adventure. Each day our campers become scientists as they use their powers of observation in the classroom and on the trail to learn about the world around them. The Garden’s enthusiastic educators encourage exploratory learning in a fun and safe environment. Every day of camp brings new adventures in outdoor experiences, children’s literature, free choice learning, snack, games, art projects and more! Snacks are provided. Campers must bring their own sack lunch. Visit DBG.org

SIERRA VISTA KIDS W.O.R.L.D: Got Kids? Kid's W.O.R.L.D.; Sierra Vista, AZ. is a fun and engaging Before & After School Recreation program for elementary students. When school ends, the Kid's W.O.R.L.D. Summer Recreation Program keeps the fun (and children) going. Both programs are Sierra Vista Public School-based and focus on group-oriented activities that expose kids to a wide variety of "Wonderful Opportunities in Recreation and Leisure Development (W.O.R.L.D.)." Visit SierraVistaAZ.gov

These are just a few examples. Look around for more. Summer can be a great time to grow in our environmental awareness.
